THAT RAINY DAY FEELING

Written by Katie Mika, for the Southtowns Regional Chamber of Commerce Tourism Initiative

We all know that rainy day feeling (maybe a little too well), but when you’re looking for something to do, and the weather won’t let up, Hamburg has you covered. Whether you’re seeking an offbeat adventure, a quiet place to cuddle up with a book, or a quasi-replacement for outdoor activity, Hamburg offers up a little something for everyone who needs to shake off the wet weather.

OFFBEAT ADVENTURE

When was the last time you were at a record shop? At the risk of dating myself, I’ll answer honestly and say, before I was at Rick’s Record Shack and Wifey’s Closet, I hadn’t been to a record shop in decades. This place is great when the weather isn’t … you can honestly lose hours here, poring over the thousands of rare albums on vinyl. And as an extra added bonus, there’s a clothing shop in the same space, featuring gently used clothing, jewelry, purses, and more. Take your time and comb through the vintage selection; maybe you’ll find a rain jacket before heading back outside into the elements 😉 The best part about this, one of the best retail mashups imaginable, is that the owners are knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, so you might even make a new friend while you’re there.

READING IN THE RAIN

If records and togs aren’t your thing, maybe reading is! The Hamburg Public Library is arguably the best library in the Erie County Public Library System. With tons of comfy chairs to kick back, relax, and read your favorites, the Library also features Mmmm & Tea’s Café, where you can sample a variety of coffees, teas, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and sweets. And while you’re there, if the clouds happen to give way, you can enjoy the newly added Reading Garden, where there is plenty of outdoor space to soak up the sun.

INSIDE & ACTIVE

If you just need to move, but you can’t conquer your normal workout routine in the rain, why not try some indoor activities? A self-described judgement-free zone, Rise Fitness has something for everyone – spinning, core strengthening, power yoga (power yoga?!), and even a boot camp class. They offer single classes for only $14 ($8 if it’s your first one!), so no worries about lengthy contracts or commitments if you just want to get through the rainy season and resume your outdoor workouts once the weather is nicer!

Rain or shine, there is always something to do or see in Hamburg. Like us on Facebook at Southtowns WNY Tourism to keep up to date on all that Hamburg and the Southtowns have to offer. Hope to see you soon!
