The Town of Hamburg Ice Arena will open its fall-winter ice programs with an Open House

on Sunday, Sept. 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. with free skating from 10 to 10:50 a.m. The Recreation Office is accepting registration for its popular Skate Great Learn-to-Skate and Beginner Hockey programs held in four sessions on Wednesdays at 5 to 5:45 and 6 to 6:45 p.m. Sessions for ages 3 through adult will begin Sept. 20 (Session 1); Nov. 8 (Session 2); Jan. 3 (Session 3) and Feb. 21 (Session 4). Anyone donating gently used ice skates sizes 7 to 12 during the Learn to Skate Open House will receive a $5 voucher to use to reduce the cost of any skating program or ice time.

Sessions consist of 45-minute periods that include a 30-minute lesson and 15 minutes of practice time. Fees are $75 for residents and $88 for non-residents. The fee includes badges, loaner skates, instruction and practice time. All skaters must wear a helmet – bike helmets are OK. Free skates and helmets are available for use, although skate sizes are limited. Beginner hockey teaches the basics of the game without the use of sticks and pucks.
